ADREM successfully held International Workshop on Drought Monitoring, Assessing and Planning under Global Climate Change

From June 4 to 5, 2012, International Workshop on Drought Monitoring, Assessing and Planning under Global Climate Change was held in BNU. The Workshop was sponsored by BNU, organized by ADREM, co-organized by National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs /UN-SPIDER, and International Center for Drought Risk Reduction, and supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of China and National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Wu Jianjun from ESPRE chaired the Opening Ceremony.

On the two-day meeting, experts delivered 30 reports around the theme of Drought Monitoring and Forecasting, Drought Risk and Impact Assessment and Drought Mitigation and Planning, covering important research results of the existing draught and disaster research field. The experts included Professor Donald A. Wilhite, initiator of draught disaster theory and University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Researcher Zhang Cunjie of National Climate Centre and Professor Wu Jianjun from ADREM made theme reports respectively.

The Workshop had over 80 participants from China, the United States, India, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, Kenya, and international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs /UN-SPIDER, and International Center for Drought Risk Reduction.

International Workshop on Drought Monitoring, Assessing and Planning under Global Climate Change was co-held by ADREM and National Drought Mitigation Center, providing an exchange platform for researchers, experts and scholars to discuss draught disaster research results, showcasing BNU’s achievements and expanding BNU’s influence. At the same time, it is highly relevant to consolidate cooperation results with research agencies in Europe and US and expand cooperation with Africa, Middle Asia and West Asia.
