On May 10, 2012, the Third National Integrated Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Sustainable Development Forum opened in Beijing. The forum, organized by the National Disaster Reduction Committee, aimed at strengthening the capacity building of the national comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation, and promoting the culture of disaster prevention and mitigation. The participating experts exchanged ideas around China’s disaster prevention and mitigation strategies, technological innovation and integrated disaster risk management, and capacity building of comprehensive disaster prevention.

In the afternoon, the sub-forum of “Science and Technology Innovation and Integrated Disaster Risk Management” organized by ADREM was held simultaneously with other sub-forums, attracting around 120 experts and scholars. Experts from across the country talked about mechanism and evolution of natural disasters, the theory of disaster risk identification, disaster risk comprehensive assessment, the formation of disaster chain, the applications of technology in disaster prevention and mitigation, including Internet, IOT, Cloud Computing, Digital Earth, communications and navigation. They also discussed industrialization and new materials of disaster prevention and mitigation, R&D of new products and new equipments.
