Atlas of Natural Disaster Risk of China, a nearly 10-year achievement by Disaster Team of ESPRE was in the limelight of media. The atlas, the first of its kind in China, shows regional distribution features of all types of natural disasters in China, serving as a “warning call” for China.
By referring to China’s natural disaster records and relevant loss data in the recent 100 years, the atlas collected over 400 maps and dozens of statistics form to demonstrate China’s natural disaster distribution pattern from a unique perspective. Particularly, the atlas shows that China’s natural disaster risks take on the pattern of “more in eastern region than in middle part, and more in middle part than western part”.
Professor Shi Peijun, Chief Editor, Deputy Director of National Disaster Reduction Commission and Deputy Director of ESPRE said the atlas will provide detailed scientific basis for developing countermeasures to natural disasters reduction for Chinese governments at all levels and enterprises and also exert great influence for launching community disaster reduction, as well as enhancing people’s risk awareness and improve citizen’s self-help skills.
