The project “Shenzhen Ecological Safety System Construction” was approved
[Date:2010-06-21]

The project, “Shenzhen Ecological Safety System Construction”, was undertaken jointly by the ESPRE, China Academy of Urban Planning and Design Shenzhen Branch and Shenzhen Academy of Environmental Science. On June 18th, 2010, the project was passed by the evaluation panel organized by the entrusting party, Shenzhen Habitat Environment Committee. The evaluation panel consisted of experts from South China Institute of Environmental Sciences of Ministry of Environmental Protection, Sun Yat-sen University and local experts in the field of ecology and urban planning. Leaders from Shenzhen Habitat Environmental Committee and Urban Planning, Land and Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, officials from project planning companies attended the meeting. Present leaders and experts carefully deliberated the accomplishment reports and reports of the project planning companies. After a thorough discussion, they conclude with the following opinions:
First, the project learned a lot from domestic and foreign experience in constructing an ecological safety system. The research in present ecological safety construction was of great referential significance to the project. Based on the current condition of Shenzhen, it made positive tries in the construction of such a system. Being forward-looking and feasible, the research achievements strengthened the importance of ecological corridor and node to the ecological safety of Shenzhen. It was of great guiding importance to the construction of the system.
Second, with the purpose of meeting the requirement of constructing and developing an ecological safety system, the project made a thorough probe into the situation of establishing the system and made clear of its goal and the feasible requirements in the long or short run. After the research on the coordination between development priority zone and ecological functional zone in Shenzhen, the project put forward the improvement plan and management measures and proved the feasibility of the plan. All these served as scientific backups for the construction of an ecological safety system in Shenzhen.
Third, on the basis of preliminary planning, the project clarified the layout of the safety network, namely “four belts and six corridors”, as well as the border of crucial nodes. According to the current situation and field survey results, the project brought up some constructive improvement suggestions, which laid the foundation for making Shenzhen an ecological city.
Fourth, the project provided important scientific supports and planning scheme for the reconstruction of ecological corridors and nodes in Shenzhen. It also guaranteed further implementation of the construction and the promotion of its ecological function.
The project featured all-round coverage, evident emphases, accurate statistics, credible conclusions and a highly workable reconstruction plan. The achievements of the project basically met international standards and were passed unanimously by the experts.
It was the second project that applied to Shenzhen ecological construction and was undertaken by Beijing Normal University after the measurement of environmental resources in Shenzhen in 2006. It marked a step forward of the lab’s long-term follow-ups and the research on rapid urbanization in Shenzhen.
