From September 7 to 9, 2012, as one of the important activities celebrating the university’s 110-year’s anniversary, the 3rd Conference of International Society for Integrated Disaster Risk Management was successfully held in BNU. Sponsored by BNU and International Society for Integrated Disaster Risk Management, and organized by ADREM, the conference had nearly 200 experts, scholars and master-degree graduates from over 30 countries and regions. ESPRE Director Professor Shi Peijun and Professor Norio Okada, Chairman of the Society, co-chaired the conference. The theme of the coference was “From surprise to rationality: Managing unprecedented large-scale disasters”.
By taking this opportunity, teachers and students specializing in disaster and risk research actively carried out international academic exchanges, and successfully organized two parallel sessions “Integrated Risk Governance and Global Change” and “Global Change, Environment Risk, and Adaptation”.
On this conference, to pay tribute to the active efforts and great contributions BNU made in international integrated disaster and risk study, the Society granted the award of “The Best Contributor” to Professor Shi Peijun, Co-chair of the conference and one of the initiators of International Society for Integrated Disaster Risk Management.
