From August 26 to 30, 2012, 13 teachers and students from ESPRE participated in the 4th International Disaster and Risk Conference, IDRC Davos 2012 which was sponsored by GRF, Davos. The theme was “Integrative Risk Management in a Changing World - Pathways to a Resilient Society”. Over 800 experts and scholars all over the world participated in the conference.
IHDP-IRG Project undertook by ESPRE and EU Global System Dynamics Project (EU-GSDP) jointly hosted the conference of Global Risks—An Integrated Governance Approach. Entrusted by IHDP-IRG, the Organizing Committee of IDRC Davos 2012 invited speakers including Professor Sander van der Leeuw of Arizona State University, Professor Armin Haas of Climate Impact Research of Germany Potsdam Institute, Professor Diana Mangalagiu of Oxford University, Professor Michael J Manfredo of Colorado State University, Professor Edgar Grande of National Defense University in Munich, Germany, IRG project Co-Chair Professor Carlo Jaeger, and Professor Shi Peijun. The IHDP-IRG Project Office also organized other three sessions together with the Organizing Committee of IDRC Davos 2012, namely: Progress and New Initiatives in IRG Project / IHDP hosted by Professor Ye Qian, Lessons Learned from Recent Very Large-Scale Disasters in the World presided over by Professor Shi Peijun and the session of Financing the Green Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges ahead by Professor Diana Mangalagiu. Lectures in different sessions were delivered by Professor Shi Peijun, Professor Ye Qian, Associate Professor Yang Saini, Associate Professor Hu Xiao-bing, and posters presentations were demonstrated by 8 doctoral / graduate students including Dr. Lv Yanli, and Dr. Le Man. The IHDP-IRG Project Office hence was highly appreciated by GRF Chairman Walter J. Ammann and the participants..
Professor Shi Peijun and Madam Margareta Wahlström, Secretary General of UN-ISDR further discussed the planning and feasibility of IRG’s entry into UN-ISDR strategic framework. Professor Shi Peijun, Professor Ye Qian, Professor Han Guoyi and Associate Professor Yang Saini compared notes with the wellknown experts in international disaster and risk industry on the implementation of IHDP-IRG project and both sides were benefited from the communication. Professor Ye Qian was also interviewed by the Organizing Committee of IDRC Davos 2012.
Besides, IHDP-IRG set up a booth exhibiting International Journal of Disaster Risk Science published by BNU, Scientific Plan of IHDR-IRG, the series of book about IHDR-IRG and global university consortium plan. These materials were well received, and attracted large amount of experts and scholars to communicate and exchange ideas. Some experts expressed their intention to cooperate with IHDP-IRG.
